inspiration album covers

i wanted to create an album cover and singles inspired by the DIY and grunge nature most alternative and rock covers have

Fake Tattoos

one of my initial ideas was to create a cover inspired by the idea of tattooing yourself, i wanted to explore the idea of really harsh lighting and editing. so i used a blue light lamp and edited the photos to to create a much harsher lighting and shadow almost like in the album for the cure or Deftones. i used skin tones tights and drew small designs all over them, then stretched them so the designs become messy and more difficult to read.
i also wanted the photos to not be flattering and have an almost scary tone to them

i also wanted to explore the idea of the process of tattooing making a simple hand out of clay and setting out the tattooing equipment around it, painting a red tint around the where the tattoo is on the hand and a stencil next to it. i also wanted to reference the bands logos on each finger
by this time i figured out id like my album cover to be named bad choices, in reference to regretful tattoos. my next idea is also to cover my hands in drawing of what could be possible tattoos almost like a full sleeve of patchwork art

Idea for a Diorama as Front Cover

these are the initial sketches for my idea to create a diorama as the front cover, with the main character being in the front cover as well as the singles, making bad decisions, like tattooing herself and cutting her own hair.
i wanted the character design to be that of a punk/alternative woman covered in poorly made tattoos in sitting in her grungy and very messy room.
i used air dry clay to figure out the different styles i could create the character in and found i like the more simplistic animated style, similar to the style of coralline or Wendell and Wilde
i wanted the main album cover to be this character after all the bad decisions she made and the single be a kind of continuation of that
