personally I am someone who reads a lot in my spare time and own a couple special edition books with a similar stout and style of the folio society, my favourite of those would be an old leather bound Grimes fairytale book.

Dave Mckean
I really enjoy looking ad Dave Mckeans creative process and final outcomes, his way of layering paints and use of colour is something I am incredibly inspired by, mixing both traditional and digital at in his artworks.

Shaun Tan
Shaun Tan is an artist I have always been incredibly inspired by, his unique characters and creations a huge inspiration for me. 

Research Into Story 

the story I have been given involves a woman named lorna, trapped in a reoccurring dream that eventually kills her. the episode originally appeared on fear on 4 on BBC Radio, as a part of the man in black stories.
my initial idea is to use that house in her dream as a main illustration, and the idea of empty dark space surrounding her.I would also like to use some more interesting colours and push the dreamlike idea, make the atmosphere seem as dreamlike and whimsical as I can.

MAIN ILLUSTRATION 
looking into the concepts of that house alone in a field, the house is described in very little detail, the only defining features that it stands alone in a plowed field, which inspired me to create a kind of farmhouse in a field.​from my main idea I was inspired by Andrew Wyeth's painting "Christina's world" and the idea of more vibrant but limited colour palettes.

CHAPTER HEADER
I really wanted to look into this idea of the keyhole and doorknob. the kind you would find on an old farmhouse.
in much of the story lorna pends a lot of time trying to rattle and open the door so I thought he idea of that doorknob with a keyhole to look into would bean interesting idea to use.

I wanted the cover to look quite ominous and dark, having the limit of only two colours was also a challenge so I wanted to stick to dark but bold and contrasting colours.
